Biography
Born in Jaffna in 1990, Jasmine Nilani Joseph completed a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Jaffna in 2015.Joseph had her first solo exhibition at the Art Circle, University of Jaffna, in 2019. As an artist-in-residence, she also presented an open-studio exhibition at Pepper House Kochi, organized by the Kochi Biennale Foundation in 2020. She has exhibited widely at international venues, including the Gropius Bau (2023); Vadehra Art Gallery (2023); University of Exeter (2023); the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (10th edition) at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (2022); Manifesto for Artists in a Strong State, Germany (2020); the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (2019–2020); the Colomboscope (2019); the Dhaka Art Summit (2018); the Human Rights Arts Festival (2017); and Young Subcontinent at the Serendipity Arts Festival (2017). Her works have been published in Vitamin D3: Today's Best in Contemporary Drawing, and she was awarded the DBF Asia Art Future Award by the Asia Society Game Changer Awards India in 2022. Her work is also included in several private collections.The artist lives and works in Sri Lanka.
