Biography
Born in 1969, N. S. Harsha completed a bachelor’s degree in fine arts (painting) from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts and a master’s degree in painting from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. His recent solo exhibitions and projects have been presented at major international venues, including Stomach Studio at Vadehra Art Gallery (2022); Recent Life at Gallery Chemould (2020); Gathering Delights at the CHAT Centre for Heritage Arts and Textile (2019); Victoria Miro (2019); the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery (2018); the Mori Art Museum (2017); the Dallas Museum of Art (2015–2016); the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program (2012–2013); INIVA (2009); and the Maison Hermès Tokyo (2008), among others. Harsha’s work has also been featured in significant group exhibitions, including the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2014); Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art (2013); Dojima River Biennale (2013); Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art (2012); the Asian Art Museum (2012); the Yokohama Triennale (2011); and the São Paulo Biennial (2010). He was also a participant in the major touring exhibition Indian Highway, presented at the Serpentine Gallery (2008); Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art (2009); Herning Museum of Contemporary Art (2010); Musée d’Art Contemporain Lyon (2011); and the MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts (2011–12). His works are held in major public collections, including the Mori Art Museum; M HKA Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp; Glynn Vivian Art Gallery; the National Museum Cardiff; the Queensland Art Gallery; and the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.Harsha received the DAAD Scholarship in 2012 and was awarded the Artes Mundi Prize in 2008.The artist lives and works in Mysuru, India.
