Biography
Born in 1964 in Mumbai, India, Anju Dodiya received her fine arts degree from the Sir J. J. School of Art. Dodiya has exhibited extensively worldwide, with recent participations including the Sharjah Biennale (2023); Conversations on Tomorrow at Sadie Coles HQ (2022); Anatomy of a Flame at Frieze Cork Street (2022); Tower of Slowness at Galerie Templon (2021); Every Soiled Page (curated by Sabih Ahmed) at Ishara Art Foundation (2020); The Air is a Mill of Hooks at Bikaner House (2018); and Possibilities for a Non-Alienated Life (curated by Anita Dube) at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2018). Her earlier exhibitions include Visions from India at Pizzuti Collection (2017); The Journey is the Destination at the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation (2016); Continuing Traditions at the Musée de la Toile de Jouy (2015); and The Eye and The Mind at the Guangdong Museum of Art (2015). She also created the site-specific installation Throne of Frost at the Laxmi Vilas Palace (2007), and participated in landmark exhibitions such as New Narratives: Contemporary Art from India at the Chicago Cultural Center (2007); Making Worlds at the Venice Biennale (2009); and the Beijing International Art Biennale (2012). Her work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Kamel Lazaar Foundation; Tate Modern; the National Gallery of Modern Art; Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation; Ishara Art Foundation; the Prabhakar Collection; the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art; Devi Art Foundation; Burger Collection; RPG Enterprises; TAPI Collection; the Art Institute of Chicago; KADIST Foundation; Buxton Collection; and the Zabludowicz Collection.The artist lives and works in Mumbai, India.
