Biography
Raghava KK is a globally recognized, multidisciplinary artist whose work transcends the binaries of local/global and digital/material, embodying New India's digital aspirations. He has pioneered a groundbreaking body of work that explores human transcendence through the lens of the current digital era. His practice traverses traditional forms of painting, installation, and performance, while fearlessly embracing new media - including artificial intelligence, neuro-feedback, biohacking and crypto currencies - to express post-human contemporary realities. Raghava’s significant influence extends beyond the canvas: he has delivered 5 TED talks and was featured on CNN's list of ten fascinating thinkers in 2010. His storytelling is truly interdisciplinary, migrating through 50-foot live paintings, award-winning interactive books on the iPad (Pop-it) and music-inspired art for figures like Erykah Badu. As Creator in Residence at Viacom, he premiered Must#, a Visual Empathy Algorithm that adapted to the viewer’s visual meaning-making. A strong proponent of innovation, Raghava co-founded The INK Fellowship (The TED of India) in 2010 and was inducted as a National Geographic Society Explorer in 2013 for pushing scientific boundaries through art. His continuous exploration of technology and art includes the 2015 collaborative project, SOZO, a painting machine developed with an offshoot of the MIT Media Lab. He also co-founded 64/1 (2018), an art collective dedicated to blurring the lines between art, criticism and education. In recent years, Raghava has cemented his place in the digital art world, becoming the first Indian to launch an NFT at Sotheby's (2021) in partnership with Burning Man, using brainwaves and painting robots. His latest series, The Impossible Bouquet (2023), further explores the conversation with AI, defining a new genre of art produced by the extended dialogue of man and machine. He currently lives and works across New York, Dubai, and Bangalore, represented globally by Volte Art Projects.
